How have people mispronounced your name? How is it supposed to sound?
Submitted by Lorie.
The most common thing that happens when I'm introduced to someone is that they think my name is "Wendy" instead of Whitney. Besides that, I haven't had any mispronunciation problems in years (thanks, Whitney Houston). Though I do find that people frequently misspell it. That's right, they forget the H.
What word(s) do you always make a typo in?
I can't type the word portfolio to save my life. It always comes out "portfoilio", and I always have to go back and correct it. I type fast, but I don't type using the "home keys", which I think accounts for the majority of my typos.
How do you eat your pizza: folded, flat or with a fork and knife?
Submitted by danimass.
The way I choose to eat pizza is highly dependent on the situation.
If there's a fork and knife available, and the pizza is piping hot, then I will start eating it with the utensils. Once it's cooled down, I usually pick it up and start eating. If the pizza isn't hot from the oven, I'll skip the utensils completely.
If it's a big slice of NY style pizza, I think it pretty much requires you to fold it in half in order to eat it. Forget about a fork and knife.
Cyrus prefers to eat all the toppings off his pizza with a fork, and then eat the crust. I find this slightly strange yet endearing.
What is your favorite scent?
Submitted by Erinen.
- Coffee is always delightful.
- Sauteed garlic or onions.
- A clean shaven boyfriend - I'm not saying I dislike facial hair, but there's this faint scent from his shaving cream after he's shaved and it hard to smell unless my nose is right next to his face. It's not even an expensive brand of shaving cream, but I love the smell.
- Citrusy things - lemons, oranges, limes
What was your very first job?
Submitted by Laurel.
Do I have to count the babysitting? Because I don't really want to count that. I never liked it much. Thought I did get some Depeche Mode tickets out of it in 1990, so that wasn't so bad.
My first "punch in, punch out" type of job was at a feed & pet supply store in Santa Cruz. I started around the same time I started my junior year of high school. My dad was the manager of the store, and it was right up the road from the high school. All very convenient. My step-mom also worked there. Hi, nepotism. Eventually she quit and a little while later my brother started working there. I finally quit (after almost 5 years) to go work for a pet food company (I had contacts in the pet food industry, yo). I'm glad I got some experience to work retail for a little while, but I'm REALLY glad I don't have to do it anymore.
How many pets have you owned in your lifetime? Tell us about them.

Birds:
Parakeets (2) - Checkers (green and black), and I can't remember the name of the other one (she was blue)
Cockatiel - Sydney, she was grey and she used to lay eggs sometimes.
Zebra Finches (2) - I can't remember what we named them. Very cute, but very messy.
Cats:
Annie (calico)
Gretchen (black with white "socks")
Oreo (also a calico)
Chelsea (tabby)
Dogs:
Brandy (collie mix)
Shasta (black lab)
Bailey (yellow lab mix) - Hands down, the best dog ever. I miss this dog more than I can put in to words.
Spotty (dalmatian) - Technically not mine, she's the family dog.
Misc:
Rats (2) - Don't knock 'em until you've had one as a pet, they're very sweet. Othello was first, and after he died, there was Olivia.
Fish - Oh so many fish! Too many to count. I had 3 small tanks at one point. All fresh water.
A snake - Yes, really! A small garter snake. It ate goldfish. I think I sold it back to the store I worked at.
A chameleon - Yes, really! A female Jackson's chameleon. I think I gave her to a co-worker when I moved away.
And I think that pretty much covers it.
What's the last thing you crafted, constructed or created yourself?
I made myself a skirt! I bought the pattern here. And I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.
I bought the Built By Wendy SEW U book, and ever since, I've been aching for a sewing room. I would be sewing so much more if I were able to actually leave the sewing machine out, as opposed to extracting it from the puny hall closet every time I need to stitch of hem. I intend on making many more skirts in the next few weeks, regardless of a sewing room. I've got to have something to wear with the punk rock boots!
What's your musical horoscope? (Put your music player on shuffle and write down the first 10 songs that come up.) Inspired by Stephanie.
iTunes on shuffle on the G5 at work produced the following list:
1. Trailways - the Red House Painters
2. C'mere - Interpol
3. Broken Crown - All Girl Summer Fun Band
4. Labor Day - Snoozer
5. King of Carrot Flowers Part One - Neutral Milk Hotel
6. Wilderness - Sleater-Kinney
7. The Face That Launched 1000 Shits Ships - Death Cab For Cutie
8. Making Time - Creation
9. Papa Was a Rodeo - the Magnetic Fields
10. Pepita - Caliexico
Honestly,
I can't make head or tails of it horoscope wise. If this list was a
magic 8-ball, I think "Try Again Later" sums it up.
What was the last game you played?
Frisbee on Sunday afternoon at the giant park we discovered not far from the apartment. Does frisbee really count as a game?
Before that it was a game of Set with Seth and Cyrus. Actually, it may have been a game of bejeweled...
Interestingly enough, this very evening I'll be playing Scrabble with the gals, which I am very much looking forward to.
What's your favorite song to sing karaoke-style? If you don't have one, why not?
When I was going to punk-rock karaoke on a regular basis, *my* song was "Ever Fallen in Love?" by the Buzzcocks. I loved to sing this song because it didn't require singing so much as just yelling into the microphone. My other favorite was "Add It Up" by the Violent Femmes, partially because I used to know that entire album by heart, and also the yelling vs. singing thing.
If I'm not at punk-rock karoake, I usually look for "These Boots are Made for Walkin'" by Nancy Sinatra.
