We're having "purple day" at work next Friday, because our company color is, you guessed it - purple. So this means we should not only wear purple, but be creative in how we do so. Naturally, I'm on the hunt for purple shoes. A few years ago I actually had a pair of 10-eye purple Dr. Martens, but they were a bit on the small side, so I eventually got rid of them. Earlier today, I was regretting that decision, until I found these:
It's another edition of "The Shoes I Am Wearing Today".
I found these first on a clearance rack at Macy's. The clerk couldn't find the mate to it in my size. So naturally, I went to the interwebs the first chance I got, and found them at zappos and online shoes. I ended up ordering this style (chunk change) and a similar style (slam chunk) that was more of a slide than a strappy sandal from online shoes.
Here's where I have to digress for a moment and say that online shoes may have better sales and prices sometimes, but are inferior to zappos in other ways. Shipping can sometimes take forever, and returns are not free. Exchanges are, but not returns.
The sandals I ordered? They took almost 2 weeks to get here. Regan ended up finding the same sandals at DSW for 40% off. So she bought them for me while she was there one night. If she hadn't done that, I wouldn't be wearing them today.
And I am indeed wearing them today, and they are comfortable! The sole is a little bit narrow, and that took some getting used to, but no feet pain what so ever. No pinching of the pinky toe, no heel pains, just comfortable feet. I think I have finally found sandals that are not too dressy, but not too casual. Hopefully they'll hold up for a summer or two.
I'm wearing heels today and I'm not quite sure how I feel about it. They're a low heel, so it hasn't been that bad, but I still have back-up shoes in the car, just in case. I figured they'd be a good way to dress up the jeans I wore to work today, but something about them feels not quite right, which I think has more to do with me than the actual shoes...
During a meeting with my co-workers last week, one of those "tell us something about yourself" questions came up. I blurted out that I liked shoes. "How many pairs do you have?" someone asked. I haven't counted my shoes since sometime in 2000 when I was cleaning out my closet in preparation for an impending move. At that time the count was somewhere near 60, give or take a few. Since then I've bought and purged many times, and haven't bothered to keep count. So my boss tasked everyone on my team with going home and counting their shoes.
I knew it would be a bit of a task, so I waited until the weekend. I also made sure Cyrus wasn't around, because I think his eyes would have popped out of his head when he saw this:
Some of you may remember the "shoes that I love but are so not me" post. Two of those were by Born. Well, they've done it again. Meet the Born Britten
Very cute, very high heels. I LOVE them. But I know they'd just sit in the closet if I brought them home. Especially after my last adventure with heels. Though they might be worth trying on. They may look higher than they actually are...
And since we're talking about Born...
I happened to come across a pair of Born knock-offs at Target a little while ago
I'm wearing them for the first time today, and so far, so good. Perhaps not as comfortable as the real thing, but at $22, I simply could not pass them up. I was smart enough to remember back up shoes though, just in case they turn on me and cause major foot pain this afternoon.
I wore the "old lady" shoes (I know, they're not REALLY old lady shoes) on Friday night. When I stepped in to the elevator in the parking garage, the woman coming out said "Cute shoes!" I figured this was a good sign.
While the shoes were indeed fairly comfy, my feet are just not using to being in that "high heel" position. The balls of my feet were KILLING ME. Which I think would have happened no matter what type of heels I was wearing, Clarks or no. And in my morning rush, I forgot one of the rules one should follow when wearing brand new shoes for the first time anywhere...bring back up. I was envious of Regan who had brought her Dansko Jade mary janes to change into as the night was ending. I, on the other hand, was running around the Fairmont in my bare feet.
Ah well. They're definitely still wearable. Maybe not in a situation where I'll be on my feet for almost 8 hours, but I think I'll definitely be able to wear them again.
I just bought old lady shoes.
Okay, so maybe they're not that bad. I must have liked them enough to fork out actual money for them. I guess they're kind of old lady retro, in a good way.
I volunteered to help out at a charity event tomorrow night, and I have a feeling I'll be on my feet most of the evening. It's a formal dress event, so jeans and Danskos wasn't going to cut it. As someome who can't really "do" heels, I needed to find something that was a compromise between nice, yet not pain inducing. I just happened to slip on this pair of Clarks, and WOW, they're SUPER comfy. I think I can deal with retro old lady if my feet are comfortable all evening.
I did do a few laps around the Shoe Pavilion in a pair of Aerosoles heels (I can't seem to find a photo) that were a bit more "hip" (square toe, contrating stitching), but they just weren't me, and I could already tell that they'd kill my feet. They just didn't have the cushiony goodness of the Clarks.
I'll let you know how it goes after tomorrow night...
The boots arrived yesterday. I ended up ordering them from online shoes because they had my size, and they shipped just as fast as zappos and I'm a happy, happy girl with bad ass black boots. Now I want the waether to hurry up and get cooler so I can actually wear them.
Last Friday I found out that I'll be in Austin next week. Having not flown since March, can anyone update me on the what I can/can't bring on the plane BS? I just read on the San jose airport site about the shampoo, etc. But I thought I had heard something about not being able to bring iPods on board...is that still true? If so, I just might DIE. Anyone know what up with all this stuff? I may cross post this bit to the UGC for more info/help...
Regan and I went shoe shopping in Santa Cruz yesterday. I had been going on and on about the greatness that is Sock Shop Santa Cruz, and had to drag her there to see for herself. And of course, the Sock Shop did not disappoint. And while I had silently told myself I didn't need any shoes, I spied a pair of boots that I ended up trying on and wearing around the store for probably half an hour.
Sadly, I left them at the store. But I'm obviously still thinking about them. I may take Regan's suggestion of ordering them on Zappos, and trying them out with a few clothing cobinations to see what I think. If it's truly not feasible to wear 14-eye black steel toe boots to work, then I can just mail them back.
Though, if my littlest brother's taste in music keeps progressing the way it has, these babies may come in handy for the next concert I might have to take him to.
I'm seriously considering buying ANOTHER pair of shoes today. I've got my heart set on a pair of Dansko Marcelle
clogs. I read reviews about them on Zappos last night, and it seems
people have nothing but good things to say about them. The only
question now is: Black or Red?
I recenly bought a pair of red mary-jane style shoes, so I'm leaning
towards the black. Here's hoping that one of my local shops has them in
my size!
