I have a job! A real job! No more contracting! I signed an offer on Friday!
Today is my first day of work as a real employee.
Now if I could just get rid of this badge that says "CONTRACTOR" in big red letters, I'd feel even better.
At work, my group is in their own little room, but we're next to the sales training team. Who do training. So they provide food for the trainees. Lots of food. Guess what they do with the leftovers? They put it in the kitchen. Free food for the taking!
About half an hour ago, there was stuffed french toast, sausage, and bacon. I am not kidding when I tell you that I RAN to the kitchen. Because, Hello! Bacon!
I'm going to gain 10 pounds while working here.
The beeping has stopped, but now the smell of incense is coming from somewhere. What the hell?! All I need next is for someone to walk by wearing too much perfume/cologne and then I can fall over from the obnoxious sensory overload.
Styro is right, time to head home, today is a DO OVER.
In a cubicle near me, there is a computer incessantly beeping. It's not a friendly beep either, it's a harsh, annoying, "you did something wrong!" beep. It's taking all my willpower not to scream, "STOP WITH ALL THE BEEPING!"
I don't usually mind the cubicle setup, but today, I think it may drive me absolutely bonkers.
What was your very first job?

Do I have to count the babysitting? Because I don't really want to count that. I never liked it much. Thought I did get some Depeche Mode tickets out of it in 1990, so that wasn't so bad.
My first "punch in, punch out" type of job was at a feed & pet supply store in Santa Cruz. I started around the same time I started my junior year of high school. My dad was the manager of the store, and it was right up the road from the high school. All very convenient. My step-mom also worked there. Hi, nepotism. Eventually she quit and a little while later my brother started working there. I finally quit (after almost 5 years) to go work for a pet food company (I had contacts in the pet food industry, yo). I'm glad I got some experience to work retail for a little while, but I'm REALLY glad I don't have to do it anymore.
